DESCRIPTION:
APW - Hamilton, Grade 992B with very rare dial, 21J, 16S, white gold-filled OF Hamilton Model 3 recase, "Hamilton Railroad Timekeeper" marked melamine DS dial, time-zone hour hands, SW-LS, fully capped lever escapement, mono-metallic balance with Elinvar hairspring, striped pattern nickel damascene, s#C301164. Comes with a scarce black colored Hamilton hard plastic flip-top box. This very unusual melamine dial with script "Railroad Timekeeper" signature is the first of its type we have seen, and a tag from our late consignor also indicates that it is the only example that he had seen. From the well-known Hamilton collection of Robert Bennett of Olivehurst, California.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Ticking sluggishly, overhaul recommended, bright lustrous surfaces, small patch of abrasion toward inner perimeter of barrel bridge near mid-point of adjustment markings; nearly flawless dial with some mild edge rub under bezel, ultra-fine surface splits tracing the perimeter recesses of dial sinks; excellent hands, red time-zone hand with some bits of paint loss near its base; case shows light wear, few shallow dings to rear causing small areas of rippling to reflection, some nicks to band, good engraving detail; bow pivots freely, crown shows light wear; clean plastic crystal. Box shows very light exterior wear, foil Hamilton seal is present, blue inserts are present, upper lid liner is present.
